I am Diana T. Mackiewicz. Ma. Ed I hold a B.A. in Political Science, Teaching Certifications in Technology, History and Political Science for the Secondary level in Massachusetts and Connecticut and a Masters in Education with an emphasis on Technology in the classroom. I am also a Reiki Master, Integrated Energy Therapy (IET) level III practitioner,Indigo soul, teacher, poet, wife and mother of a fantastic Indigo poet-artist.
I currently teach at a residential boarding school in Western Massachusetts. I have taught in parochial and public schools. After several years of moving around and trying out different teaching posts, I realized that students in many of the school were either bored, penalized for their boredom or just "not there" in school. I was ready for a change and I knew my life was going to change after my first Reiki attunement in May 2000. At that time, I took a leap of faith to teach at a boarding school that has a decidedly unique student population-all are diagnosed with "learning disabilities".
I already had experience with students with learning disabilities, which I consider to be learning DIFFERENCES. My years in the public and parochial schools had prepared me to work with these students. However at the boarding school, all the kids were this way and there were no special breaks for anyone. In this tight knit community, all the staff and faculty work to educate and bring a sense of family to these students. Furthermore, the students have also given me countless hours of re-learning what is important to teach in life. Many of my students are Indigos. They know they are special and they behave that way. Yet, they treat me with respect because in their life I have shown them respect and a reason to learn and attain self-worth.
I am open to your thoughts and remarks about the content of this website. I realize that this is not everyone's style of teaching and that what I have brought to you is controversial. I ask that before you draw any hasty conclusions, to just observe the children of today. How come a 5-year old can easily learn a computer when a 65 year old has to go through several training classes? That was my first question.
